INTRODUCTION

Citrix DirectICA adds support for Multi-VGA adapters to Citrix
WinFrame 1.7, the premier Windows enterprise deployment platform. A
Multi-VGA adapter (also called a multiconsole adapter) is a hardware
device that contains several VGA video adapters with additional
support hardware. It appears to the server as several VGA video
adapters, each with an accompanying keyboard, mouse, and optional
serial and parallel ports, depending on the manufacturer and model.
WinFrame treats WinStations associated with Multi-VGA ports much like
the system console, with some extensions.

The combination of a keyboard, mouse, and monitor attached to a port
on the Multi-VGA adapter is referred to as a DirectICA station. A
DirectICA station is treated more like the server console than a
conventional WinStation, in that the devices (serial and parallel
ports) associated with the DirectICA station are on the server
computer itself. This means that DirectICA stations do not support
drive mapping, COM port mapping, or printer mapping. Any serial or
parallel ports associated with a DirectICA station are given unique
device names and are treated as ports on the server computer.

For more information, see the DirectICA documentation, available as
a printable Microsoft Word DOC file or as a Windows Help file. The
Windows Help file is accessed by double-clicking on the DirectICA
Help icon in the Citrix DirectICA program group.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

If your WinFrame server does not have a PCI video controller, you
must remove or disable the video controller and use one of the
channels on the Multi-VGA adapter for the server console. This
decreases the number of DirectICA stations available for other users.

See the section entitled "System Sizing" in Chapter 2 of the WinFrame
Concepts and Planning Guide for general WinFrame hardware
requirements. DirectICA has been tested with the following Multi-VGA
products:

* Maxspeed SGX MaxStation Controller 4 channel adapter with
appropriate cabling and MaxStation base units

* Stone Microsystems MultiVideo VGA System 4 channel adapter with
512K or 1MB modules and appropriate cabling and junction boxes

HARDWARE INSTALLATION

This section contains separate installation procedures for the
Maxspeed SGX MaxStation and Stone Microsystems MultiVideo VGA System
adapters.

To Install the Maxspeed SGX MaxStation Adapter

Before installing, decide which base address to use with your
Multi-VGA adapter. The base address chosen must not conflict with
other devices in your server. If you do not have a record of which
address ranges are already being used, check your BIOS configuration
software and system and expansion card documentation. You may need to
check jumper settings on existing expansion cards when you open the
server to install the Multi-VGA adapter.

1. If your WinFrame server does not have a PCI video controller, you
must use one of the channels on the Multi-VGA adapter for the
server console. In this case, you must change the jumper settings
on the Multi-VGA adapter. See the manufacturer's documentation for
   instructions.

2. Connect the DirectICA stations according to the manufacturer's
    documentation.

NOTE: The first serial port on each DirectICA station is reserved
for use with a mouse only.

To Install the Stone Microsystems MultiVideo VGA System Adapter

Before installing, decide which IRQs and base address to use with
your Multi-VGA adapter. The IRQs and base address chosen must not
conflict with other devices in your server. If you do not have a
record of which IRQs and address ranges are already being used, check
your BIOS configuration software and system and expansion card
documentation. You may need to check jumper settings on existing
expansion cards when you open the server to install the Multi-VGA
adapter.

1. Configure the base address using the jumper settings on the
adapter. See the manufacturer's documentation for instructions.
Make a note of the address you use.

2. Connect the DirectICA stations according to the manufacturer's
    documentation.

NOTE: The first serial port on each DirectICA station is reserved
for use with a mouse only.

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

1. Log on to the WinFrame server using the local "Administrator"
    account.

2. If you received DirectICA on a diskette, insert the diskette in
    the WinFrame server's disk drive.

3. In Program Manager, select Run from the File menu and type
<path>\setup.exe, where <path> is the path to the DirectICA
    installation files.

The installation wizard guides you through the setup process.
DirectICA setup creates a Citrix DirectICA program group. You
are prompted to read the Readmvga.txt file. This file contains
information not available at the time of printing this manual as
well as useful information regarding the hardware setup.

4. You are asked if you want to run DirectICA Configuration to
manually set the IRQs or base address.

By default, the DirectICA driver automatically selects an
available base address (for the Maxspeed adapter) or IRQs (for
the Stone Microsystems adapter) each time the driver is loaded
during bootup. In most cases, you do not need to change these
defaults. If desired, you can manually assign the IRQs or base
    address.

WARNING: If the IRQ or base address settings conflict with other
devices on the system, incorrect system operation (including
rendering the system unbootable) may occur.

5. Restart the WinFrame server. Watch the startup sequence to make
sure the DirectICA driver loads successfully and detects the
DirectICA stations. If you experience problems, see Chapter 5
    for troubleshooting information.

6. After the WinFrame server restarts, see the section "Enabling
DirectICA Stations" in Chapter 3 for instructions on enabling the
    DirectICA stations.

UNINSTALLING DIRECTICA

1. Make sure all users are logged off from DirectICA stations.

2. Using WinStation Configuration, disable all DirectICA stations.

3. Restart the server in VGA mode.

4. Login using the local "Administrator" account.

5. Run DirectICA Uninstall from the Citrix DirectICA program group.

If for some reason the Citrix DirectICA program group is already
deleted, select Run from the File menu and type:
   C:\WINFRAME\SYSTEM32\DPAMVGA\SETUP.EXE C:\WINFRAME\SYSTEM32
\DPAMVGA\Deisl1.isu DPADD (all on one line) where C:\WINFRAME is
the directory where WinFrame is installed.

6. When uninstallation finishes, reboot the server.

7. Manually remove the Citrix DirectICA program group.
